Dr. Robert Robbins grew up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He received his B.S. in biology from Greensboro College. He received his Ph.D. in Comparative Medicine and Anatomy as well as his medical degree from Bowman Gray School of Medicine in 1992. After graduating from medical school, Dr. Robbins completed a Family Practice residency at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

Dr. Robbins is married to the former Pam Wyrick. They reside in Asheboro and have five sons, Colby, Carter, Kerby, Cooper, Konner and a daughter, Kyndall.
